Aishvarya Singh Posted As Joint Secy, Drinking Water & Sanitation After Completing MMTC Tenure

Award-winning IAS officer Aishvarya Singh, from the 2008 batch (Sikkim cadre), has officially concluded her tenure as Government Nominee Director at MMTC Ltd, a prominent Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. With her term ending on September 22, 2025, she has now been relieved of her responsibilities in the Department of Commerce and is poised to assume her new role as Joint Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.

A Proven Track Record in Public Administration

With nearly 16 years of distinguished service, Smt. Aishvarya Singh has held pivotal roles in personnel management, district administration, and land revenue systems across both the Sikkim state government and various central ministries. Her tenure in the Department of Commerce included serving as Joint Secretary and representing the government as a non-executive director on the board of MMTC Ltd—one of India’s largest international trading entities.

Academic Distinction and Policy Insight

Singh’s academic credentials are equally impressive. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Postgraduate degree in Anthropology, both with gold medals. This unique combination of analytical and socio-cultural expertise has significantly enhanced her policy-making capabilities and governance approach.

National Recognition for Sanitation Leadership

Her leadership in public service was nationally recognized when she received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration. The award honored her outstanding implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) in West Sikkim, under the Northeastern & Hill States category—cementing her reputation as a key contributor to India’s sanitation transformation.

Strategic Role in Water and Sanitation

In her new capacity as Joint Secretary, Singh is expected to play a vital role in steering flagship initiatives such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide functional tap water connections to every rural household. Her prior success in sanitation governance and her broad administrative experience are anticipated to bring valuable momentum to the department’s national objectives.
