In a major administrative move, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed two senior IPS officers—Malothu Ramulu Naik and Nishit Kumar Ujjwal—as Inspectors General (IG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) for a tenure of five years. The appointments were formalized through an official order issued by the MHA on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Malothu Ramulu Naik Appointed IG, SSB

Malothu Ramulu Naik, a 1998-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General in the SSB. His tenure will extend for five years from the date of assuming charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Naik brings with him over two decades of experience in policing and administration, and is widely respected for his contributions to public security and intelligence operations.

Nishit Kumar Ujjwal Also Joins as IG, SSB

Similarly, Nishit Kumar Ujjwal, a 2001-batch IPS officer from the Manipur cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General in the SSB under the same terms. Known for his service in high-pressure and sensitive assignments, Ujjwal is regarded as an expert in internal security management.

Appointments Set to Bolster SSB’s Strategic Leadership

These appointments come at a time when the government is focusing on enhancing the operational efficiency and leadership structure of India’s paramilitary forces. The Sashastra Seema Bal, which guards India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, plays a critical role in border security and internal stability.

The inclusion of seasoned officers like Naik and Ujjwal is expected to strengthen the command structure of the SSB and support its ongoing strategic and operational goals.
