IAS Officer Ashish Saxena Elevated as Director in Ministry of Mines Under Central Staffing Scheme
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has accorded formal approval for the appointment of Mr. Ashish Saxena, IAS, to a senior leadership position in the Government of India. He has been selected to serve as Director in the Ministry of Mines, under the framework of the Central Staffing Scheme.
According to the official notification, Mr. Saxena’s tenure as Director will be for a period of five years starting from the date he formally assumes charge of the post, or until further orders are issued by the competent authority, whichever is applicable earlier.
The Ministry of Mines is one of the Government of India’s core ministries, entrusted with formulating and implementing policies governing the exploration, development, and regulation of the country’s mineral resources. It plays a critical role in strengthening India’s mining ecosystem, ensuring sustainable mineral extraction, facilitating industrial growth, and enhancing self-reliance in strategic raw materials.
Mr. Saxena’s appointment comes at a time when the ministry is accelerating reforms to attract private investment, streamline mineral concessions, promote transparent auction mechanisms, and boost domestic production of critical and rare minerals essential for manufacturing, renewable energy, defence, and infrastructure sectors.
With his administrative experience and field-level governance exposure, Mr. Saxena is expected to contribute significantly to improving regulatory oversight, expediting mineral development projects, and advancing India’s strategic mineral security agenda.
His induction at the Director level further reinforces the Centre’s policy of positioning experienced IAS officers in key ministries to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure effective policy execution across high-impact sectors.
