Assam Government Transfers 15 IAS & ACS Officers in Major Bureaucratic Reshuffle; Partha Pratim Majumdar Appointed Bajali District Commissioner
The Government of Assam has carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring and posting several officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Assam Civil Service (ACS) across key departments and district administrations in the state.
The large-scale administrative exercise, implemented through an official notification, involves changes in the positions of district commissioners, secretaries, and senior officers in multiple departments. The move is aimed at strengthening governance and improving administrative efficiency across Assam.
Key Transfers of IAS Officers
Among the prominent changes, senior IAS officer Partha Pratim Majumdar, who had been serving as Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Home & Political Department as well as the Women & Child Development Department, has been transferred and appointed as the District Commissioner (DC) of Bajali.
Another important appointment involves Narendra Kumar Shah, who was earlier serving as Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training and Managing Director of the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (AIIDC). He has now been appointed Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat while continuing to hold additional charge as Managing Director of AIIDC.
Meanwhile, Aditya Vikram Yadav, who had been serving in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, has been transferred and posted as the District Commissioner of Lakhimpur.
New District Commissioner Appointments
The reshuffle also includes several key district-level postings.
Preeti Kumari has been appointed District Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong.
Ayushi Jain has been posted as District Commissioner of Darrang.
Senior ACS officer Pubali Gohain, who was earlier serving in Darrang, has been transferred and appointed District Commissioner of Golaghat.
At the district administration level, Dhiraj Saud has been appointed District Commissioner of Baksa after his services were withdrawn from the Welfare of Bodoland Department. In another change, Gakul Chandra Brahma has been posted as District Commissioner of Chirang.
Secretaries Appointed in Key Departments
The reshuffle has also resulted in several officers being assigned key roles in the state secretariat.
Saranga Pani Sarma, who previously served as District Commissioner of West Karbi Anglong, has been appointed Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Transport Department. He has also been given additional charge as State Project Director of the Assam Inland Water Transport Development Society.
Similarly, Gautam Das, the outgoing District Commissioner of Baksa, has been appointed Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
Former Chirang DC Jatin Bora has been posted as Secretary to the Government of Assam in the General Administration Department as well as the Department of Innovation, Incubation and Start-Ups.
Additional Secretaries and Departmental Responsibilities
The reshuffle also includes several appointments to additional secretary-level positions:
Pronab Jit Kakoty, who was earlier serving in Lakhimpur, has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department and will also serve as Director of Employment and Craftsmen Training.
Parag Kumar Kakaty, formerly District Commissioner of Golaghat, has been posted as Additional Secretary in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. He will also hold additional charge as Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
Mridul Kumar Das, the former District Commissioner of Bajali, has been transferred as Additional Secretary in the Home & Political Department and the Women & Child Development Department. In addition, he has been entrusted with responsibilities related to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the e-FT project.
Objective Behind the Administrative Exercise
Officials indicated that the large-scale bureaucratic reshuffle is part of the state government’s broader effort to streamline administrative functioning, strengthen district governance, and enhance coordination among various departments.
Such periodic transfers and postings are undertaken to ensure the optimal deployment of officers, improve administrative efficiency, and address emerging governance requirements across the state.
