In an official administrative update from Assam, Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Pallav Gopal Jha has been relieved from his duties as Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, effective immediately. The decision was formalized through a government order issued earlier this week, marking a key change in the state’s senior bureaucratic structure.

Mr. Jha, a 2009-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, had been serving in the pivotal role overseeing revenue administration and disaster preparedness across the state. His tenure involved coordination with district officials and disaster response agencies, particularly during monsoon seasons and flood emergencies, which are frequent challenges in the region.

While the official notification has not detailed the reason for the transfer, sources within the administration suggest it may be part of a routine reshuffle aimed at optimizing departmental leadership and accelerating policy execution in key sectors.

Mr. Jha is expected to be assigned new responsibilities in the coming days, as part of the state government’s larger strategic realignment of senior officials. Until a successor is appointed, the department will continue to function under the supervision of the additional secretary and designated officials.

Such changes in departmental leadership often reflect the dynamic nature of governance and the effort to align expertise with emerging administrative needs.
