Ex-IPS Officer Shivdeep Lande Enters Politics: Contesting Independently from Araria and Jamalpur in Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 / From Police Uniform to Political Arena — The ‘Dabangg’ Officer’s New Mission

Patna: Former IPS officer Shivdeep Wamanrao Lande, popularly known across Bihar as the “super cop”, has officially stepped into active politics. Days after making public his intention to contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections from Araria and Jamalpur (Munger) constituencies, he secured a non-resident certificate (NRC) from the Araria Sub-Divisional Office on Monday — a crucial step toward filing his nomination papers.

According to sources, Lande is expected to submit his nomination papers for the Araria seat later this week, most likely on Friday.

From the Badge to the Ballot

A 2006-batch IPS officer from the Bihar cadre, Lande had voluntarily retired from service on September 19, 2024. Following his retirement, he founded his political organization, “Hind Sena,” on April 8, 2025. However, due to the Election Commission’s delay in formal registration, Lande will be contesting this election as an independent candidate.

Speaking to reporters after receiving his NRC, he remarked,

“To build a stronger organization, I must lead by example. I have decided to contest independently. I urge people to vote beyond caste, religion, and community, and stand with genuine development.”

Why Araria and Jamalpur?

Both these constituencies have deep ties to Shivdeep Lande’s career and personal journey. During his tenure as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Araria, he became widely respected for his strong crackdown on drug cartels and organized criminal groups.

His first posting as a probationary officer was in Jamalpur, Munger, where his firm action against Maoist activities earned him early recognition as a fearless officer.

However, since the registration of his party is still pending, he will be contesting this election as an independent candidate.

What Lies Ahead

Lande’s political debut has already sparked widespread discussion in Bihar’s political circles. His clean image, bold service record, and grassroots popularity position him as a strong alternative to traditional politicians. Analysts suggest that his entry could significantly influence young and first-time voters, especially in regions where he once served as a popular officer.

With the transition from IPS officer to political leader, Shivdeep Lande now seeks to extend his public service — this time, not through the police uniform, but through the people’s mandate.
