Breakthrough in Rajasthan Forest Administration: 22 Officers Elevation to IFS After 3 Yr Backlog

Parijat Tripathi

In a significant move to bolster state forest management, the Rajasthan government has officially cleared the promotion of 22 Rajasthan Forest Service (RFS) officers to the Indian Forest Service (IFS). This decision effectively ends a three-year administrative stalemate that had stalled career progressions for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 batches.

The breakthrough came following formal approval from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, allowing the state’s Department of Personnel to issue the selection lists.

Overcoming Administrative Hurdles

The promotion process had been paralyzed since 2022 due to a combination of protracted court cases and procedural bottlenecks within the state and central coordination committees.

The Turning Point: Senior officials have credited Chief Secretary V. Srinivas (who assumed charge in November 2025) for his proactive intervention. His sustained coordination with central ministries was instrumental in navigating the legal complexities that had previously blocked these appointments.

Impact on Governance: Filling these 22 IFS vacancies is expected to provide a much-needed boost to Rajasthan’s wildlife conservation efforts and forest administration, especially in critical zones requiring senior oversight.
