Two IPS Officers Assigned to CBI as Superintendents of Police on Five-Year Deputation

Ashutosh Singh from Chhattisgarh and Saurabh Gupta from Assam-Meghalaya cadre have been appointed to pivotal roles within the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), marking a notable advancement in their careers.

CBI Appointments Cleared by Competent Authority

In a recent administrative decision, the Competent Authority has sanctioned the placement of two Indian Police Service officers into the CBI as Superintendents of Police. The approval, granted on October 17, outlines a central deputation tenure of up to five years or until further instructions are issued.

Profiles of the Officers Assigned

The officers selected for this central assignment are:

Ashutosh Singh, IPS officer from the 2012 batch, Chhattisgarh cadre

Saurabh Gupta, IPS officer from the 2018 batch, Assam-Meghalaya cadre

Currently, Ashutosh Singh holds the position of Superintendent of Police in Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh, while Saurabh Gupta serves in the same capacity in Hojai, Assam.

Their induction into the CBI is considered a prestigious milestone, offering exposure to complex investigations and national-level law enforcement responsibilities.

Significance of Deputation to India’s Premier Investigative Agency

Joining the CBI is regarded as a high-impact assignment for IPS officers, involving work on critical cases such as corruption, financial crimes, organized syndicates, and matters of national sensitivity. Deputed officers are expected to leverage their field expertise in specialized investigative settings, thereby contributing to institutional integrity and judicial accountability.

Policy Framework Behind the Appointments

These postings are part of the inter-cadre deputation mechanism overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). Officers are selected based on a thorough review of their service history, performance evaluations, and cadre clearances, followed by formal approval from the Competent Authority.
