Central Government Extends Deputation of NMC Secretary Raghav Langer for One More Year

In a significant administrative decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has endorsed a proposal from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to continue the central deputation of IAS officer Raghav Langer for an additional year.

Langer, a 2009-batch officer of the Arunachal Pradesh–Goa–Mizoram–Union Territories (AGMUT/UD) cadre, is currently serving as Secretary of the National Medical Commission (NMC) at the Joint Secretary level.

According to the order, his deputation has been extended for a period of one year beyond October 3, 2025, or until further instructions are issued, whichever comes earlier. This extension ensures continuity in the leadership of the NMC, the apex regulatory body responsible for overseeing medical education, setting professional standards, and maintaining transparency in the functioning of medical institutions across India.

The move reflects the government’s confidence in Langer’s administrative capabilities and his role in steering critical reforms within the National Medical Commission. Under his tenure, the NMC has been engaged in major regulatory tasks, including updates to medical education norms, licensing frameworks, and strategies aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery through improved training standards.

Officials noted that extending his deputation will help maintain administrative stability at a time when the health sector is undergoing transformative changes driven by policy revisions, digital initiatives, and the expansion of medical infrastructure nationwide.

Further orders regarding any subsequent changes in leadership or tenure adjustments will be communicated by the government as required.
