IOFS Officer Rajeev Kumar Receives One-Year Extension as Joint Secretary in MHA; IAS Amit Meena’s Deputation in MSDE Extended Until 2028
In a notable administrative move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has sanctioned the extension of central deputation tenures for two senior officers — Rajeev Kumar in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Amit Meena in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued formal orders following proposals submitted by the respective ministries, thereby confirming the extensions.
Rajeev Kumar’s Tenure in MHA Extended
Rajeev Kumar (IOFS:2000) will continue serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs for an additional year.
According to the DoPT order dated February 28, 2026, the ACC approved the MHA’s proposal to extend his deputation tenure by one year, effective March 5, 2026, or until further instructions, whichever comes earlier.
This extension ensures continuity in one of the Union Government’s most critical departments, where Joint Secretaries play a pivotal role in policy coordination, internal security management, and administrative oversight.
Amit Meena’s Deputation in MSDE Extended Till 2028
In a separate order dated February 24, 2026, the ACC granted a two-year extension to Amit Meena (IAS:2011:KL), currently serving as Director in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
His deputation, which was originally set to conclude on March 30, 2026, has now been extended until March 30, 2028, or until further orders.
Mr. Meena has been on central deputation since March 30, 2021, when he joined as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Revenue. During this period, he was also placed on compulsory wait in the Department of Economic Affairs. In August 2024, he was appointed Deputy Secretary in MSDE, before being elevated to Director.
The latest extension provides him with two additional years to continue contributing to the skill development sector, ensuring stability and continuity in a ministry that plays a vital role in workforce empowerment and vocational training.
Ensuring Administrative Continuity
These tenure extensions highlight the Centre’s emphasis on maintaining leadership stability in key ministries. Such decisions are often taken to safeguard uninterrupted policy implementation, particularly in departments with strategic and reform-oriented mandates.
With these approvals, both officers will continue to strengthen their respective ministries, reinforcing administrative consistency and sustaining policy momentum at the central level.
