Centre Extends Tenure of CSS Officer Sagar Mehra as Joint Secretary in Department of Fisheries
In an important administrative development, the Government of India has formally approved the continuation of Shri Sagar Mehra, a senior officer of the Central Secretariat Service (CSS), in the post of Joint Secretary in the Department of Fisheries.
According to the official decision, the tenure of Shri Mehra in this senior policy-making position has been extended beyond the originally sanctioned term, enabling him to continue overseeing key strategic, regulatory, and developmental functions within the fisheries sector. Now Mehra will continue working beyond March 10, 2026 till the superannuation ie. up to June 30, 2026.
The extension ensures continuity in the implementation of national fisheries programmes, policy reforms, and inter-ministerial coordination efforts aimed at strengthening India’s aquaculture and marine fisheries ecosystem. Shri Mehra will continue to play a pivotal role in steering initiatives related to sustainable fishing practices, blue economy development, fishermen welfare schemes, and modernization of fisheries infrastructure.
Senior officials indicate that the decision reflects the government’s confidence in his administrative leadership and domain expertise, which are considered critical for maintaining momentum in ongoing fisheries development and reform agendas.
