In a fresh round of senior-level appointments, the Government of India has assigned two experienced IAS officers to important positions in the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister’s Office, reflecting the administration’s focus on strengthening financial governance and executive coordination.

Appointment of Shri Debasish Prusty

Shri Debasish Prusty, IAS (Rajasthan cadre, 2000), has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance.

The Department of Financial Services plays a vital role in overseeing India’s banking sector, insurance, and financial institutions. As Additional Secretary, Prusty will be responsible for policy formulation and implementation in areas that directly impact financial inclusion, banking reforms, and the regulation of financial services. His appointment comes at a time when India is intensifying efforts to expand digital banking, strengthen public sector banks, and enhance financial access for citizens.

Prusty’s leadership is expected to contribute to advancing reforms in the financial sector, ensuring stability, and supporting the government’s broader economic agenda.

Appointment of Shri Sridhar Chiruvolu

Chiruvolu’s elevation reflects recognition of his contributions and the need for experienced leadership in managing the complex administrative and policy responsibilities of the PMO.

As Additional Secretary, he will play a crucial role in supporting the Prime Minister’s agenda, ensuring inter-ministerial coordination, and driving the implementation of flagship programs. His appointment strengthens the administrative framework of the PMO, which is central to India’s governance and decision-making processes.

Broader Significance

These appointments highlight the government’s strategy of placing seasoned IAS officers in positions that directly influence financial governance and executive administration. While Prusty’s role will focus on strengthening India’s financial services sector, Chiruvolu’s elevation underscores the importance of experienced leadership within the Prime Minister’s Office.

Together, these postings reinforce the government’s commitment to economic reforms, financial stability, and efficient governance at the highest levels.
