In a major administrative shake-up approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Delhi Police has transferred five senior IPS officers to new assignments in key Union Territories. Three officers have been posted to Jammu & Kashmir, while two have been reassigned to Arunachal Pradesh. The fresh orders mark a significant move aimed at boosting security leadership in regions that require strong law-and-order oversight.
Three IPS Officers Shifted to Jammu & Kashmir
The Ministry of Home Affairs has cleared the transfer of Sukant Shailja Ballabh, Krishan Kumar, and Kamal Pal Singh Malhotra—all seasoned IPS officers currently serving in crucial positions within the Delhi Police.
According to the official notification, these officers have been formally relieved from their existing roles and instructed to take up their new assignments in Jammu & Kashmir from April 1, 2026.
The decision is part of a broader initiative by the MHA to reinforce policing capacity, streamline administration, and strengthen internal security mechanisms in strategically vital regions.

Two IPS Officers Posted to Arunachal Pradesh
Along with the postings to Jammu & Kashmir, the Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred two Delhi Police officers to Arunachal Pradesh, a region with substantial strategic importance in India’s Northeast:
Mr. Sukhraj Katewa, IPS – currently DCP/Security (Prime Minister’s Security)
Mr. Pankaj Kumar, IPS – presently DCP/Crime
These officers are expected to bring extensive operational expertise to critical security and administrative functions in the state.
Broader Impact of the Transfers
This reshuffle comes at a time when both Jammu & Kashmir and the northeastern states face heightened operational challenges and evolving security dynamics. By deploying highly experienced IPS officers to these regions, the MHA aims to:
strengthen policing capabilities,
enhance inter-agency coordination,
reinforce counterterrorism and intelligence operations,
and ensure better administrative governance.
Experts suggest that this move will help create a more robust and responsive policing framework in areas where law enforcement plays an essential role in maintaining stability and national security.
