Young IAS Officer Takes Charge to Oversee Development Ahead of Simhastha 2028
The holy town of Omkareshwar has received a new administrative head as Dr. Shrikrushna Sushir, a 2024-batch IAS officer, formally assumed charge as the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) of the Omkareshwar Municipal Council.
Dr. Sushir, who is presently serving as Assistant Collector in Khandwa and also holding additional charge as CEO of Khandwa Janpad Panchayat, took over the post following official directives issued by the Urban Administration Commissioner. He is expected to assume his new responsibilities on Tuesday afternoon, after paying his respects at the revered Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple.
Former CMO Sanjay Geete Relieved of Duties
The appointment follows the voluntary resignation of Sanjay Geete, who had been serving as the Chief Municipal Officer of Omkareshwar. Geete, a Revenue Sub-Inspector by designation, requested to be relieved from the role due to personal reasons.
His application was accepted by the Urban Administration Department, which promptly issued orders relieving him of his duties. He has since been attached to the Indore Divisional Office.
Officials noted that the quick administrative action ensured uninterrupted governance and project continuity in the temple town.
Administrative Realignment for Upcoming Simhastha
According to senior officials, Dr. Sushir’s posting is part of a larger administrative restructuring plan designed to strengthen governance in Omkareshwar ahead of the Simhastha 2028 festival — a major religious congregation that draws millions of pilgrims from across India.
In anticipation of the event, several large-scale infrastructure and urban development projects are being launched to improve civic amenities, road connectivity, and sanitation facilities.
The appointment of IAS officers at both Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and CMO levels underscores the government’s focus on enhancing coordination and execution for time-bound completion of these works.
A Dynamic Young Officer at the Helm
Known for his dedicated work ethic and academic distinction, Dr. Shrikrushna Sushir represents a new generation of proactive administrators.
His leadership is expected to infuse fresh momentum into ongoing urban initiatives, particularly in city planning, waste management, and pilgrimage infrastructure.
Officials in the Urban Administration Department expressed confidence that his appointment would help accelerate development in Omkareshwar and improve the overall administrative efficiency of the region.
With Simhastha 2028 on the horizon, the government’s move to place capable IAS officers in key local positions highlights a strategic push toward sustainable urban growth and efficient event preparedness in one of Madhya Pradesh’s most sacred pilgrimage centers.
