Dr. Urijit R. Patel has been appointed as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a period of three years with effect from September 4, 2016. Dr. Patel was on deputation to the Reserve Bank from the IMF between 1996 and 1997. He was also instrumental in advising on development of debt market, banking sector reforms, exchange rate and evolution of foreign exchange rate.
