Mr. Dwij Goel, a 2023 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer originally allotted to the Tripura cadre, has been transferred to the Himachal Pradesh cadre pursuant to his marriage to Ms. Anjali Garg, also a 2023 batch IAS officer serving in Himachal Pradesh. The inter-cadre transfer was approved with the mutual consent of both the Tripura and Himachal Pradesh state governments.
Current Posting in West Tripura
Mr. Goel presently serves as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the District Magistrate and Collector, West Tripura. Prior to this, he held key administrative positions including Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and Chief Executive Officer of the Ambassa Municipal Council. He is expected to be relieved of his duties in Tripura shortly and will soon assume responsibilities in his new cadre.

Born on January 6, 1997, in Kharkhauda, Meerut, Mr. Goel was raised by a single mother and overcame significant financial challenges to pursue his aspirations. A graduate in engineering from NIT Bhopal, he began his career with a lucrative position at Hero MotoCorp. However, his unwavering commitment to public service led him to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
His path to the IAS was marked by perseverance
2020 (First Attempt): Cleared the preliminary exam while working full-time, but did not qualify in the mains.
2021 (Second Attempt): Reached the interview stage and was placed in the reserve list; subsequently joined the Pondicherry Civil Services (PONDICS) as Municipal Commissioner.
2022 (Third Attempt): Secured All India Rank 71 and earned a place in the IAS.
Inter-Cadre Transfer on Grounds of Marriage
Mr. Goel’s transfer to Himachal Pradesh has been processed under the established provisions for inter-cadre transfers due to marriage. His spouse, Ms. Anjali Garg, is also an IAS officer from the same batch, currently posted in Himachal Pradesh. Such transfers are routinely sanctioned to enable spouses to serve within the same cadre, subject to administrative feasibility and inter-state concurrence.
