EC issues notice to Sakshi Maharaj over communal remarks

The EC has issued a notice to Sakshi Maharaj, BJP MP from Unnao, for his alleged communal remarks against Muslims during a religious event in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh and sought his reply by January 11. The notice comes three days after Congress moved the EC on a plea that the MP had violated the model code of conduct that came into effect in the state on January 4. Uttar Pradesh votes in seven phases from February 11 to March 8.
