In a major administrative development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the promotion of 46 senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers to the rank of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (PCIT) for the panel year 2025. The decision, taken on Saturday, September 13, 2025, is aimed at reinforcing the leadership framework within the Income Tax Department and aligns with the government’s broader objective of enhancing tax administration and fiscal governance.
The promoted officers, who will assume charge with immediate effect upon notification, bring extensive experience and are expected to play crucial roles in policy execution, revenue enhancement, and ongoing tax reforms.

The ACC, however, did not approve the empanelment of Ms. AS Bindhu for promotion to PCIT in the current panel year. Additionally, the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) recommendations for the following officers have been placed in a sealed cover, pending requisite vigilance or legal clearances:
