Extension of Central Deputation Tenure of Mr Kapil Verma (IDSE:2004), Director in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) for the extension of the central deputation tenure of Mr Kapil Verma, a 2004-batch officer of the Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE), currently serving as Director in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

According to the order, Mr Verma’s deputation has been extended for a further period of two years beyond January 3, 2026, up to January 3, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Mr Verma has been on central deputation since January 4, 2021, under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS). In his current role, he has been associated with key policy and administrative responsibilities within the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, which is tasked with framing national energy policies, overseeing the oil and gas sector, and implementing flagship programs related to energy security, exploration, refining, and distribution.

The extension of his tenure reflects the government’s recognition of his continued contributions to the functioning of the Ministry, ensuring continuity in leadership at a time when India’s energy sector is undergoing significant transformation and policy reforms to strengthen energy independence and sustainability.

The order, issued with reference to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas’s Office Memorandum No. A.22012/01/2018-Estt-PNG (E.25372) dated June 16, 2025, formalizes the ACC’s approval of the extension
