FIR Lodged Against Ex-Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, Wife Razia Sultana in Son’s Mysterious Death; SIT Formed to Probe Alleged Murder and Conspiracy

A sensational case has emerged in Haryana after the death of Aqil Akhtar, son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, took a startling turn. The Haryana Police have now filed an FIR against Mustafa, his wife and former minister Razia Sultana, and three other family members, treating the case as a suspected murder and criminal conspiracy.

FIR Registered Following Neighbour’s Complaint

The FIR was lodged on October 20 at the Mansa Devi Complex Police Station in Panchkula, based on a complaint submitted by Shamshudeen Chaudhary, a neighbour of the deceased from Malerkotla, Punjab. The complainant cited a video posted by Aqil Akhtar on August 27, along with several social media posts, as evidence of a possible conspiracy behind his death.

Video Message Raises Alarming Allegations

In the video that has since gone viral, Aqil accused his father of maintaining an “improper relationship” with his wife and claimed that his entire family — including his parents, sister, and wife — were plotting either to kill him or implicate him in false criminal cases. He spoke of being under extreme emotional strain, repeatedly asserting that he was being portrayed as mentally unstable.

Initial Death Report Suggested Overdose

Aqil was found dead at his residence in Sector 4, Panchkula, on October 16. At that stage, his death was treated as a case of suspected drug overdose, and the post-mortem was conducted before his body was handed over to the family. With no initial signs of foul play, the matter appeared to be closed — until new evidence surfaced.

Investigation Reopened; SIT Constituted

Once the complaint and the deceased’s video evidence came to light, police reopened the case. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta confirmed that an FIR had been registered under Sections 103(1) and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to ensure an impartial and scientific probe.

“The SIT, led by an ACP-level officer, will examine all aspects of the case with complete neutrality,” DCP Gupta said. “We are committed to ensuring that the investigation remains transparent — neither protecting the guilty nor wrongfully accusing anyone.”

Prominent Family, High-Profile Case

The case has generated intense public attention because of the accused’s stature. Mohammad Mustafa previously served as DGP (Human Rights) in Punjab, while his wife Razia Sultana is a former PWD minister and a senior political figure. The inclusion of their daughter and daughter-in-law among the accused has made the probe even more sensitive.

Legal and Political Ripples

Legal analysts note that Aqil’s digital statements before his death could become key pieces of evidence, potentially influencing how investigators establish motive and causality. Political circles in both Punjab and Haryana are closely watching developments, given the case’s far-reaching implications.

SIT to Examine Digital and Forensic Trail

According to police officials, the SIT will review digital records, phone communications, forensic samples, and witness statements to determine the cause and circumstances of Aqil’s death. Psychological assessments may also be considered if required.

Next Steps

The SIT has initiated summons for questioning the accused and other individuals close to the family. Authorities have appealed to the public and media to avoid speculation and allow the investigative process to proceed without prejudice, as the case unfolds into one of the most high-stakes and emotionally charged investigations in recent memory.
