IAS Debashree Mukherjee: Newly Appointed Chairperson of NCVET

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the assignment of additional charge as Chairperson of the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) to Debashree Mukherjee, a seasoned IAS officer from the 1991 batch of the AGMUT cadre.

Mukherjee, who currently serves as Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), will assume this new role alongside her existing responsibilities.

Tenure and Notification Details

As per the official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), her appointment is effective from September 1, 2025, for a period of six months, or until a regular appointee takes charge, or until further orders—whichever comes first.

Born on November 19, 1968, in Madhya Pradesh, she has held several high-impact roles across central ministries, including a notable tenure in the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Academic Credentials

Mukherjee holds two prestigious degrees:

M.A. in English Literature from Jawaharlal Nehru University (1989–1991)

M.Sc. in Water and Environmental Management from Loughborough University, UK (2009–2011)

She has also participated in international training programs, enriching her understanding of global governance frameworks and administrative best practices.
