Veteran AGMUT Cadre Officer Brings Vast Experience in Policing, Public Policy, and Community Engagement
Senior IPS officer Praveer Ranjan, a 1993-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories), has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and formally announced on Friday by the Department of Personnel and Training.
Mr. Ranjan, who was serving as the Special Director General of CISF prior to this promotion, will now assume charge as DG at Pay Matrix Level 16. He will remain in office until his superannuation on July 31, 2029, or until further orders. He succeeds Shri Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, who retired on September 30, 2025.
Widely regarded as a principled and resolute administrator, Mr. Ranjan has played a decisive role in managing some of the most challenging internal security events of recent times, including the 2020 Delhi riots and the farmers’ protest. Known for his expertise, humility, and unwavering commitment, he is respected as a leader dedicated to safeguarding the nation.

In addition, he spearheaded major modernization and digital transformation projects in Chandigarh Police, such as SenCOPS, Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC), CCTNS, ICJS implementation, ICMS integration, e-FIR, IRAD, ITMS, e-Beat, ERSS-112, and the digitization of over 14 police services, including passport verification. His leadership also facilitated innovations like mPassport, Police Clearance Certificates, employee verification, and character verification.
