Fresh Development in IPS Ratanlal Dangi Case: Complainant’s Family Labels Harassment Allegations Baseless, Calls Yoga Teacher’s Claims “Fabricated”
The ongoing controversy surrounding senior Chhattisgarh IPS officer Ratanlal Dangi has taken a dramatic turn, as the family of the woman who accused him of sexual harassment has now come forward to dispute her claims. The complainant — a yoga instructor and wife of a police Sub-Inspector — had alleged that Dangi had been harassing her for nearly seven years. However, her elder sister and brother-in-law have publicly rejected the accusations, calling them “completely untrue and concocted.”
Family Disputes Complainant’s Story
In statements to the media, the complainant’s sister alleged that her younger sibling had a pattern of making unfounded allegations in the past. “She has previously maligned our father and husband with false claims, and now she is targeting a respected officer,” she said. The sister further added that the complainant had caused repeated distress to the family since her teenage years by running away with different individuals and fabricating stories.
Accusations of Blackmail and Financial Misconduct
The complainant’s brother-in-law also accused her of being involved in previous cases of deceit and extortion. He claimed that she had often used fabricated complaints as a tool to extract money during family disputes. Sources indicate that records from her past cases may now be scrutinized as part of the current investigation into her credibility.
Details of the Complaint Against IPS Dangi
According to the FIR lodged on October 15 at the Police Headquarters, the yoga teacher alleged that her harassment by Dangi began in 2017, during his tenure as Superintendent of Police in Korba. She claimed their initial contact was through social media, which gradually developed into regular interactions via online yoga sessions. Over time, she alleged, the behavior turned coercive during Dangi’s postings as Inspector General in Rajnandgaon, Surguja, and Bilaspur.
The woman further accused Dangi of summoning her to his residence in his wife’s absence and of threatening to transfer her husband if she refused his demands. She also claimed he engaged her in prolonged late-night video calls and maintained that she possesses extensive digital evidence to support her claims.
IPS Dangi’s Response: “An Attempt to Blackmail”
IPS Ratanlal Dangi, currently serving as Director, Police Training Academy, Chandkhuri, has emphatically refuted all accusations. In his written statement to the Director General of Police, he alleged that the woman had been threatening him with false charges and even hinted at poisoning herself to implicate him. Dangi asserted that the complainant’s actions were part of a deliberate attempt to defame and blackmail him.
Inquiry Team Constituted
Following the directives from Police Headquarters, IG Anand Chhabra and DIG Milana Kurre have been tasked with investigating the counter-complaint filed by Dangi. The inquiry panel, which includes senior women officers, is set to record the statements of both parties and analyze digital material before arriving at its findings. No official deadline for the completion of the probe has been announced yet.
