Kumud Sahay Appointed Palamu Divisional Commissioner After Year-Long Vacancy; Pledges Transparent Governance and Timely Development
After nearly a year of waiting, the Palamu Division has finally received a new Commissioner. The Jharkhand Government has appointed IAS officer Kumud Sahay as the Divisional Commissioner of Palamu, filling a post that had remained vacant since January 31, 2025. She formally assumed charge on Thursday evening, becoming the 48th Commissioner of the division.
A 2012-batch IAS officer from the Jharkhand cadre, Sahay brings with her extensive administrative experience and a reputation for structured, data-driven governance.

Background and Administrative Experience
Kumud Sahay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and is widely recognized for her expertise in statistics and data-based policy evaluation.
June 2025: During a major administrative reshuffle, she was appointed Director of the Directorate of Statistics, Jharkhand, where she contributed to data collection, analysis, and policy evaluation, helping measure the effectiveness of government schemes.
March 2024: She served as Deputy Commissioner of Jamtara district, where she actively promoted agricultural development and welfare programs. She inspected strawberry and pea cultivation projects and directed officials to provide proper facilities to farmers.
