Retired IAS Officer K. Vijayanand Appointed Special Chief Secretary to Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu; Also Named APTRANSCO CMD
Amaravati: Retired Indian Administrative Service officer K. Vijayanand has taken charge as the ex officio Special Chief Secretary to N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. His appointment came immediately after he retired from the position of Chief Secretary of the state, marking a swift transition into a key advisory and administrative role within the government.
Along with this responsibility, the state government has also assigned him an additional role as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO) for a period of one year.
Appointment Immediately After Retirement
K. Vijayanand, a 1992-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, officially assumed charge in his new position on Monday shortly after completing his tenure as Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh on February 28.
His retirement came after the state government granted him a three-month extension in the top bureaucratic post.
Within hours of his retirement, the Andhra Pradesh government issued orders appointing him as Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, highlighting the administration’s continued confidence in his leadership and administrative experience.
Direct Reporting to the Chief Minister
In his new role, Vijayanand will supervise the functioning of the Energy Department and report directly to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The government clarified that his position will function without intermediary reporting layers within the administrative hierarchy, enabling him to coordinate policy decisions and implement key initiatives more efficiently at the highest level of the state government.
Additional Responsibility as APTRANSCO CMD
Alongside his advisory role in the Chief Minister’s Office, Vijayanand has also been appointed Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation, the state-owned electricity transmission utility.
His tenure in this role will be for one year, during which he is expected to continue contributing to power sector reforms and the strengthening of electricity transmission infrastructure in the state.
Administrative Changes in the Chief Minister’s Office
In a related administrative development, Mudadda Ravichandra, who was serving as Principal Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, has been appointed as the full-time Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
This move forms part of a broader administrative restructuring undertaken by the Andhra Pradesh government.
