In a key administrative move, the Karnataka government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has appointed senior IAS officer Anjum Parwez (1994 batch) as the new Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. Parwez, who currently heads the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, will also take over charge of the Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department. His tenure is expected to continue through February 2029, ensuring stable administrative continuity.

LK Atheeq Bids Adieu After Extended Tenure

The appointment follows the sudden resignation of LK Atheeq, the outgoing Additional Chief Secretary to the CM. A 1991-batch IAS officer, Atheeq had been retained on a contract basis even after his superannuation in January 2025—an exceptional move underscoring his longstanding rapport with CM Siddaramaiah.

Though stepping down from government duties, Atheeq will continue to serve as Chairperson of Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC) Ltd, the special purpose vehicle managing the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project. His resignation is reportedly motivated by a desire to focus on personal passions and spend more time with family.

Atheeq: A Trusted Advisor and Multifaceted Personality

Well known as one of Siddaramaiah’s most trusted advisors, Atheeq’s legacy extends beyond governance. He is an accomplished translator—having rendered Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s Urdu poetry into Kannada and translated works of Kannada poet Kuvempu into English. A dedicated motorcycling enthusiast, he has been spotted riding his Triumph Bonneville Bobber and once rode a vintage 1942 BSA motorcycle featured in the classic film Sholay.

Anjum Parwez: Steady Leadership Ahead

The elevation of Anjum Parwez to this key position reflects the government’s commitment to experienced and stable leadership. Known for his administrative acumen, particularly in rural development and environmental policy, Parwez is expected to bring continuity and strategic insight to the Chief Minister’s Office.
