Karnataka Appoints Manivannan P  As BDA Commissioner Amid Key Urban Development Push

In a major administrative move, the Karnataka government has appointed senior IAS officer Manivannan P. (1998 batch) as the new Commissioner of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), with additional charge as Principal Secretary, Social Welfare Department. His appointment takes effect from May 31, according to an official government notification.

Takes Over from Jayaram N., Who Retires Today

Manivannan succeeds Jayaram N., who retires on May 31. He assumes leadership of the BDA at a time when the authority is under pressure to deliver on several critical urban infrastructure projects in Bengaluru.

Steps In Amid Scrutiny Over Delayed Projects

The BDA is currently facing mounting criticism over delays in its flagship housing project — Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. Additionally, Manivannan will oversee the rollout of the much-anticipated skydeck project at Kengeri, aimed at boosting tourism and investment.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has stressed the urgency of accelerating these initiatives, identifying the BDA as central to Bengaluru’s future urban transformation.

Urban Planning Challenges Await

The BDA, along with the BBMP, has drawn flak for unchecked urban sprawl and permitting developments without adequate infrastructure. Manivannan is expected to bring both accountability and reform to the agency, improving its operational effectiveness and public credibility.
