Suspended Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, a 2004-batch IPS officer, has filed a petition before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) challenging the legality of his suspension. The suspension was issued in connection with the recent stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.

The petition, submitted on Sunday, names the Chief Secretary of Karnataka as the respondent and questions whether the state government followed due process before executing the suspension order.

Mr. Vikash is one of five senior police officials, including the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, who were suspended following the tragic incident. Several other officers have been transferred. The state government’s actions have sparked concern within the police force.

Suspension Viewed as ‘Premature’ by Senior Officers

Sources within the department report that many senior officers regard the suspension as hasty and premature, alleging it was imposed before the conclusion of a formal inquiry. They warn that such actions may negatively impact morale and compromise the institutional integrity of the police, especially as accountability for the incident has yet to be firmly established.
