Manipur Cadre IPS Joins NIA as SP; MP Officer Appointed SSB DIG
In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the central deputation of two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to key positions in India’s security apparatus.
Karthik Malladi (IPS:2016:MN) Appointed SP in NIA
The 2016-batch Manipur cadre officer, currently serving as Superintendent of Police (SP), Ukhrul, has been inducted into the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The MHA has directed the Manipur government to relieve him immediately so he can assume his new role.
The NIA, India’s elite counter-terrorism agency, frequently brings in state-cadre officers to bolster its investigative and operational strength.
Rudolf Alvares (IPS:2009:MP) Posted as DIG in SSB
The 2009-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre officer, currently Deputy Director in the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), will now serve as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
His tenure will be effective from the date of joining till December 13, 2027, unless modified earlier.
The SSB, responsible for securing India’s Nepal and Bhutan borders, plays a crucial role in border security and anti-infiltration operations.
Strategic Reinforcement of Security Forces
These appointments reflect the Centre’s push to deploy experienced IPS officers in critical security roles:
NIA – Leading terrorism-related probes
SSB – Safeguarding porous Himalayan borders
The move aims to enhance operational efficiency in two of India’s most vital security agencies.
