In a strategic move to optimize leadership and streamline the state’s law enforcement operations, the Kerala government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has announced the transfer and reassignment of three senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The reshuffle aims to strengthen internal security, improve administrative coordination, and enhance police training infrastructure across the state.

R. Nishanthini Appointed DIG (Administration)

Senior IPS officer R. Nishanthini, who was previously serving as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Intelligence, has now been posted as DIG of Police, Administration.

Known for her extensive experience in intelligence analysis, counterintelligence operations, and field coordination, Nishanthini has played a pivotal role in several high-level investigations and strategic intelligence missions. Her new role in administration is expected to leverage her organizational skills to streamline policy implementation and improve efficiency within the police hierarchy.

Jaidev G. Returns from Study Leave, Takes on Dual Charge

After successfully completing his study leave, IPS officer Jaidev G. has rejoined service with a dual portfolio. He has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police (Internal Security) in the State Special Branch, and will simultaneously hold full additional charge as Inspector General (IG) of Police, Intelligence.

This dual assignment highlights the state government’s strong confidence in his expertise in managing sensitive security operations. Jaidev’s academic exposure and field experience are expected to bolster intelligence coordination and threat assessment mechanisms at both tactical and strategic levels.

Jayasankar R. Appointed Principal, Police Training College

Superintendent of Police (SP) Jayasankar R., who previously handled internal security duties within the State Special Branch, has now been transferred as the Principal of the Police Training College. His appointment reflects the government’s intent to reinforce the training and capacity-building segment of the Kerala Police.
With his operational background and administrative acumen, Jayasankar is expected to bring a performance-oriented and technology-driven approach to police training and professional development programs for young officers and recruits.

Strategic Purpose Behind the Reshuffle

The latest reshuffle, though limited in scope, is seen as part of Kerala’s broader effort to restructure its internal security framework and strengthen institutional leadership within the force.
Officials indicate that the government is prioritizing intelligence-driven policing, modernization of administrative processes, and skill-based police training to address evolving law and order challenges — from cyber threats to community-level security management.

By aligning experienced officers with key administrative and operational posts, the Pinarayi Vijayan government aims to ensure a more responsive, efficient, and well-coordinated police system, capable of meeting the demands of modern governance and public safety.
