Arun Kumar Tyagi Recommended as Next Director (Technical) of Northern Coalfields Limited by PESB
The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Arun Kumar Tyagi for appointment as the next Director (Technical) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a leading Mini Ratna PSU operating under the Ministry of Coal.
At present, Tyagi serves as Area General Manager (Gevra) at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), one of the largest subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. With an extensive background in coal mining operations and project management, he brings decades of technical and field experience to his upcoming leadership role.
According to the PESB’s official notification, the recommendation was made during its 109th selection meeting held on November 10, following a comprehensive interview process. A total of 12 candidates were considered for the position, representing various subsidiaries of Coal India and other public sector undertakings in the energy sector.
The competition included three candidates from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), two each from SECL, NCL, and NLC India Limited, and one candidate each from Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Coal India Limited (CIL), and the Dulanga Coal Mining Project of NTPC Limited. After an exhaustive evaluation of qualifications, professional achievements, and leadership potential, the PESB panel concluded its selection with Tyagi’s recommendation.
Once his appointment is formally approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Tyagi will join the Board of Directors of NCL and will directly report to the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD).
As Director (Technical), his portfolio will encompass a wide range of responsibilities — including supervision of mining operations, execution of field projects, enhancement of production efficiency, and ensuring safety and environmental compliance across NCL’s mining units.
Tyagi’s elevation comes at a time when NCL is focusing on sustainable coal production, mine modernization, and advanced safety protocols in alignment with the Ministry of Coal’s long-term roadmap for energy security and clean mining technologies. His technical expertise and leadership acumen are expected to play a crucial role in driving these strategic objectives forward.
