The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has officially sanctioned the tenure extension of Ms. Navjot Khosa, a 2012-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, in her current high-profile central assignment.

Ms. Khosa will continue to serve as the Director of Census Operations (DCO) and Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) for both Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Tenure Extension Details

The proposal, moved under the Central Staffing Scheme, ensures administrative continuity for the upcoming census-related activities in the region. The key highlights of the order include:

New Deadline: Her tenure has been extended beyond March 31, 2026, and will now continue until December 31, 2027.

Terms: The extension remains valid until the specified date or until further orders are issued by the government, whichever occurs earlier.

Current Status: Ms. Khosa is currently on central deputation from her parent cadre (Kerala).

Strategic Importance of the Role

As the Director of Census Operations and Citizen Registration, Ms. Khosa holds a critical responsibility in managing demographic data and registration processes for one of India’s most significant regions. This extension comes at a vital time as the government streamlines digital registration and prepares for large-scale data collection initiatives.

Her retention in this dual capacity reflects the government’s focus on maintaining experienced leadership to oversee the complexities of citizen registration and census logistics across Punjab and Chandigarh.
