Madhya Pradesh Government Reassigns Seven Senior IPS Officers in Late-Night Reshuffle

The Madhya Pradesh administration has executed a sudden reorganization of its senior police leadership, resulting in the transfer and reassignment of seven high-ranking Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The state’s Home Department announced these changes for officers at the Additional Director General (ADG) and Inspector General (IG) levels late on Wednesday.

The restructuring impacts the duties of several prominent officers, including Rajababu Singh, D.P. Gupta, K.P. Venkateshwar Rao, and Irshad Wali, modifying their current portfolios.

Rajababu Singh’s Role Streamlined to Training

A key change involves ADG Rajababu Singh, who previously held a dual role overseeing both Training and the Complaints and Human Rights division at the Police Headquarters (PHQ). According to the new directive, he will now focus solely on his responsibilities as ADG (Training). The additional charge he held has been officially reassigned.

Irshad Wali Granted Expanded Command

In a contrasting move, IG Irshad Wali, who leads the Special Armed Force (SAF) at the Police Headquarters, has been given an expanded role. He will now also hold the position of IG for the SAF Bhopal Range, in addition to his current duties. This consolidated command grants him oversight of multiple segments within the Special Armed Force structure.

Portfolios Enhanced for Gupta and Rao

The reshuffle has significantly broadened the scope of work for ADG D.P. Gupta. Previously in charge of Human Rights and Complaints, he now takes on several additional departments. His expanded mandate includes Community Policing, the Right to Information (RTI) cell, Cooperative Fraud investigations, Public Service Guarantees, the Police Manual, Research & Development, and Police Reforms.

Similarly, ADG K.P. Venkateshwar Rao, who heads the Narcotics division, has been assigned the extra responsibility of ADG for Technical Services. This adds a crucial technology and modernization portfolio to his existing duties.

Further Adjustments at the Inspector General Level

The reorganization also included new assignments for several IG-rank officers:

Sushant Saxena, the IG for the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Bhopal, will now also serve as the IG for Investigation at the Police Headquarters.

Chaitra N, the IG for Complaints and Human Rights, has been given additional leadership of the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB).

Kumar Saurabh, the IG for AJAK, will now also oversee the Special Indian Security Force (SISF) while continuing his current AJAK responsibilities.

Strategic Objectives Behind the Changes

This mid-week reshuffle highlights the state government’s initiative to optimize administrative effectiveness within the senior echelons of the police force. By refining roles and consolidating charges, the aim is to improve coordination between essential units such as training, technical services, and human rights. The moves represent an internal realignment at the Police Headquarters to better match leadership duties with current operational and administrative goals
