Senior IPS officer and current NSG Director General likely to take over CISF leadership ahead of September retirement of incumbent chief
In a significant development in India’s security leadership, Brigu Srinivasan, a 1992-batch IPS officer and current chief of the National Security Guard (NSG), has emerged as the top candidate for the post of Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The move, if finalized, would see Srinivasan succeed the current CISF chief, who is set to retire in September 2025.
From Counter-Terrorism to Industrial Security: A Strategic Shift
Srinivasan, who took charge as NSG DG on August 28, 2024, is due to serve until August 31, 2027 (his superannuation date). However, security establishment sources indicate that his transfer to CISF is under active consideration, with an official announcement expected soon.
His potential appointment comes at a critical juncture, as the CISF expands its role in safeguarding airports, industrial units, and vital infrastructure nationwide.
A Stellar Career in Policing & Leadership
Before leading the elite NSG, Srinivasan served as:
Director of Bihar Police Academy (Rajgir)
Empanelled for DG-rank postings in February 2024
Widely respected for his calm demeanor and operational expertise, Srinivasan is seen as an ideal choice to steer the CISF’s modernization and strategic growth.
Academic Excellence & Field Experience
Adding to his decades of command experience, Srinivasan holds a Ph.D., reflecting his strong academic foundation alongside his policing credentials.
A final decision from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) is awaited. If approved, Srinivasan will take charge of one of India’s most crucial paramilitary forces.
