From Journalism to Top Cop: IPS Om Prakash’s Inspiring Journey of Discipline and Public Service

IPS Om Prakash Paswan, a 2004-batch officer of the Rajasthan cadre and native of Vaishali district in Bihar, has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Jodhpur. Renowned across the state for his calm demeanor, sharp administrative acumen, and relentless fight against organized crime, Om Prakash is seen as both a terror for criminals and a symbol of trust for the public.

Track Record of Impact: From Bikaner to Jodhpur

Before taking charge in Jodhpur, Om Prakash served as Inspector General (IG) of the Bikaner Range. His tenure was marked by aggressive operations against drug syndicates, illegal arms networks, and mafia elements — earning him widespread appreciation for restoring law and order.

A Unique Journey: From Journalist and Poet to Police Leader

Om Prakash’s professional path is as unconventional as it is inspiring. He began his career in journalism and spent over a year in the field before joining the Indian Police Service. He is also a poet, known for his compositions in Hindi and Sanskrit, a passion nurtured during his student days at St. Stephen’s College.

He studied at the prestigious Netarhat Vidyalaya and comes from a modest background. His father, the late Yogendra Paswan, was an administrative officer, and his mother, Maheshwari Devi, a homemaker.

Operation Flash Out and People-Centric Policing

As IG Bikaner, Om Prakash launched “Operation Flash Out,” a high-intensity campaign targeting drug traffickers and criminal gangs. His tough stance on crime earned him the nickname “mafia’s nightmare.”

What truly distinguishes him, however, is his commitment to community engagement. He initiated the “Police-Public Panchayat” model and launched the website police-publicpanchayat.com to bridge the gap between the public and the police. These efforts significantly boosted public trust and ushered in a more collaborative, transparent policing approach.

Balancing Discipline and Creativity

Despite his strong law enforcement background, Om Prakash has a deep love for literature and the arts. He is married to Trisha Tripti from Ranchi, who shares his passion for travel and culture. The couple has one son.

His career has included key postings as Superintendent of Police in Bundi, Baran, Karauli, Churu, and Alwar, and a leadership role as Deputy Director at the Rajasthan Police Academy. He has been honored with multiple awards by both state and central governments for his distinguished service.

High Expectations in Jodhpur

As he assumes the role of Jodhpur Police Commissioner, citizens hope Om Prakash will bring the same integrity, efficiency, and people-first approach that defined his previous tenures.

If his past is any indication, Jodhpur can expect a crackdown on crime and a policing model that is both firm and citizen-friendly.
