ACC Extends Additional Charge of P. Hemalatha as Secretary of Spices Board

Ne The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has officially cleared the proposal from the Department of Commerce to extend the additional charge of Ms. P. Hemalatha for a key administrative position.

Ms. P. Hemalatha, a senior 2000-batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, will continue to serve as the Secretary (Joint Secretary Level) of the Spices Board. She is currently serving as the Development Commissioner of the Cochin Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Extension Tenure and Terms

According to the official directive, the extension is effective for a duration of six months, spanning from January 24, 2026, to July 23, 2026. The appointment is valid until the specified date, or until a regular incumbent is appointed to the post, or until further orders are issued—whichever occurs the earliest.

Strategic Oversight in the Spices Sector

The Spices Board of India plays a vital role in the development and worldwide promotion of Indian spices. By retaining Ms. Hemalatha in this dual capacity, the government ensures administrative continuity at the Board’s helm. Her experience as the Development Commissioner of the Cochin SEZ is expected to further synergize the Board’s export-oriented initiatives and regulatory functions.
