IAS Officer Ashish Vachhani’s Tenure in Prime Minister’s Office Extended Until 2028
In a significant administrative development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of Shri Ashish Vachhani’s central deputation in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for an additional two years. The decision, announced on May 2, 2026, ensures that Vachhani, a seasoned 1997-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, will continue to serve as Additional Secretary in the PMO until May 23, 2028.
His tenure was originally set to conclude on May 23, 2026, but the extension reflects the government’s confidence in his expertise and contributions to economic and financial policymaking at the highest level.
Shri Ashish Vachhani currently holds the position of Additional Secretary in the PMO, where he specializes in matters related to economic and financial policy. His role involves advising and assisting the Prime Minister’s Office on critical issues of public finance, fiscal management, and economic governance.

Before his appointment to the PMO in May 2025, Vachhani served as Additional Secretary (Budget) in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under the Ministry of Finance.
