IDAS Officer Prashant Dubey Cleared for Central Deputation; Appointed Deputy Secretary in Ministry of Consumer Affairs
The Central Government has approved the appointment of Mr. Prashant Dubey, a 2012-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), to a new assignment at the Government of India. He was recently recommended for central deputation by the Department of Defence, and following this recommendation, he has now been posted as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
This posting marks a significant shift in responsibility for Mr. Dubey, who has been handling defence finance, auditing, and expenditure management within the IDAS cadre. His movement to the Consumer Affairs Ministry indicates the government’s effort to bring officers with strong financial and administrative expertise into departments that directly influence public welfare and consumer protection.
As Deputy Secretary, Mr. Dubey will be involved in a wide range of policy and administrative tasks, including:
supporting the formulation of consumer protection policies,
monitoring key schemes related to food distribution and essential commodities,
strengthening financial oversight within the ministry,
coordinating with state governments and regulatory bodies, and
contributing to transparency and accountability in consumer-related matters.
Central deputation allows officers from specialised services to work in different ministries, enhancing their administrative exposure while helping the central government access skilled officers from across cadres. Mr. Dubey’s appointment reflects confidence in his professional capability and his track record in the defence accounts system.
His tenure will officially begin from the date he takes charge, and it will be governed by the standard deputation rules laid down by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The appointment also helps the Consumer Affairs Ministry fill a key mid-senior level position essential for smooth functioning, policy coordination, and improved service delivery to citizens.
