About Preeti Priyadarshini
Ms. Priyadarshini is widely respected for her commitment and leadership in policing. Since joining the IPS in 2012, she has held a range of important assignments across Uttarakhand, earning recognition for her work in both operational policing and administrative roles.
Her deputation to the ITBP marks a significant milestone in her career and reflects the Centre’s ongoing efforts to bolster leadership within India’s border protection and internal security frameworks.
About the ITBP
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police was established in 1962, tasked with securing the 3,488-km Indo-China border. Over the decades, it has developed into a highly trained, multi-role force specializing in high-altitude warfare, disaster response, and internal security.
Officers like Ms. Priyadarshini, who are deputed to the ITBP, play a key role in strategic border management and operational planning, especially amid growing security challenges along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Deputation Policy Framework
Under the IPS Tenure Policy, IPS officers become eligible for central deputation after completing a required tenure in their state cadre. Deputation to organizations such as the ITBP allows officers to acquire specialized experience in national security, border operations, and inter-agency coordination.
