Major Punjab Police Reshuffle: 8 IPS Officers Transferred, New SSPs Appointed in Patiala, Mohali, Bathinda and Mansa
Punjab Government transfers eight IPS officers on administrative grounds, appointing Gurpreet Singh Bhullar as IGP Border Range and new SSPs for Patiala, Mohali, Bathinda and Mansa.
The Punjab Government has carried out a significant reshuffle of the state police administration, transferring and posting eight IPS officers with immediate effect. The changes, described as being made on administrative grounds, cover several important assignments, including the IGP Border Range, Commissioner of Police Amritsar and the SSP posts in Patiala, SAS Nagar, Bathinda and Mansa.
The order brings movement at both the senior supervisory and district policing levels. Several officers have been shifted from field assignments to police headquarters, while others have moved in the opposite direction, taking charge of important districts. The reshuffle also separates the responsibilities of the Border Range DIG and the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, which were earlier being handled by the same officer through an additional charge arrangement.
The order was issued by the Department of Home Affairs, Home-I Branch, with the approval of the competent authority. All the officers covered by the order have been directed to take charge of their new assignments immediately.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar Appointed IGP Border Range
One of the most significant changes in the reshuffle is the appointment of Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IPS (SPS:2004), as Inspector General of Police, Border Range, Amritsar.
Bhullar was awaiting posting before the latest order. He will now take charge of the Border Range, an important police jurisdiction given its location along Punjab’s international border and the security responsibilities associated with the region.
He takes over the assignment amid a broader restructuring of senior police responsibilities in Amritsar. The move also changes the way the Border Range and Amritsar city police administration are headed, with separate officers now handling the two important responsibilities.
Harmanbir Singh Becomes Full-Time CP Amritsar
Harmanbir Singh, IPS (SPS:2010), has been appointed Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, in a move that gives him a regular posting in the city.
Before the reshuffle, Singh was serving as DIG, Border Range, Amritsar, while also holding the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Amritsar. He will now relinquish the Border Range responsibility and focus fully on his role as the police commissioner of Amritsar.
The arrangement effectively separates the two assignments. With Bhullar taking charge as IGP Border Range, Singh will concentrate on policing and law-and-order responsibilities within Amritsar city.
The change is significant because Amritsar is one of Punjab’s most prominent urban centres and a strategically important border city. The Commissioner of Police oversees the city’s policing machinery and is responsible for coordinating law and order, crime control and other major policing functions.
Bhagirath Singh Meena Shifted From Mansa to Police Headquarters
Bhagirath Singh Meena, IPS (RR:2013), has been transferred from his position as Senior Superintendent of Police, Mansa, and posted as AIG, Personnel-1, CPO, Punjab.
Meena had been handling district policing responsibilities in Mansa. His new assignment takes him to the Punjab Police headquarters, where he will be associated with personnel-related administrative work.
He replaces Suhail Qasim Mir, IPS (RR:2017), who has been moved out of his existing headquarters assignment and posted as SSP, Bathinda.
The shift marks a move for Meena from direct district-level policing to a specialised administrative role within the state police organisation.
Varun Sharma to Head Police in SAS Nagar
Another important change involves the SSP posts of Patiala and SAS Nagar. Varun Sharma, IPS (RR:2014), has been transferred from his post as SSP, Patiala, and appointed SSP, SAS Nagar, also known as Mohali.
Sharma will replace Harman Deep Singh Hans, IPS (RR:2015), who has been transferred from SAS Nagar and posted as SSP, Patiala.
The two transfers effectively result in an exchange of district responsibilities between the two officers. Sharma moves from Patiala to Mohali, while Hans moves in the opposite direction.
SAS Nagar is an important urban and industrial district adjoining Chandigarh, while Patiala is one of Punjab’s major administrative and cultural centres. Both districts require close coordination between district police, civil administration and other law-enforcement agencies.
Suhail Qasim Mir Gets Bathinda SSP Posting
Suhail Qasim Mir, IPS (RR:2017), has been transferred from his post as AIG, Personnel-1, CPO, Punjab, and appointed SSP, Bathinda.
Mir had been serving in a personnel-related role at Punjab Police headquarters. His latest posting takes him back into a field assignment, where he will be responsible for the overall policing administration of Bathinda district.
He replaces Jyoti Yadav, IPS (RR:2019), who has been transferred from the SSP, Bathinda post. The appointment gives Mir charge of a key district in the Malwa region and marks a shift from headquarters-level responsibilities to district policing.
Jyoti Yadav Posted as Commandant of 82nd Battalion PAP
Jyoti Yadav, IPS (RR:2019), has been transferred from Bathinda and posted as Commandant, 82nd Battalion, Punjab Armed Police, Chandigarh. She replaces Balwinder Singh, PPS, in the commandant’s position.
The new assignment moves Yadav from a district policing role into the Punjab Armed Police setup. As commandant of a PAP battalion, she will be responsible for the administration and operational functioning of the unit under the state’s armed police structure.
Her transfer is part of the wider reshuffle that has seen several officers move between district assignments, headquarters positions and specialised police responsibilities.
Vaibhav Choudhary Appointed SSP Mansa
The SSP post in Mansa will now be held by Vaibhav Choudhary, IPS (RR:2020). Choudhary, who was serving as SP Headquarters, Patiala, has been transferred and posted as SSP, Mansa. He replaces Bhagirath Singh Meena, who has moved to the post of AIG, Personnel-1, CPO, Punjab.
For Choudhary, the appointment represents a move from a headquarters-related assignment to direct district policing. As SSP, Mansa, he will oversee the district police organisation and its law-and-order and crime-control responsibilities.
The appointment also completes the chain of changes created by Meena’s transfer from Mansa to the Punjab Police headquarters.

Officers Asked to Join New Posts Immediately
The Punjab Government has made it clear that the transfers and postings will take effect immediately. All eight officers have been directed to join their respective new places of posting without delay.
The order was issued on September 1, 2026, by Alok Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab, Department of Home Affairs, with the approval of the competent authority.
The latest reshuffle creates changes across both the Punjab Police headquarters and field formations. While some officers have been moved into specialised administrative roles, others have been given charge of important districts where they will directly oversee policing operations.
The appointment of Gurpreet Singh Bhullar as IGP Border Range and Harmanbir Singh as the full-time Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, is among the most notable aspects of the exercise. It also ends the earlier arrangement under which Singh was handling the CP Amritsar assignment in addition to his Border Range responsibilities.
At the district level, the changes bring new leadership to Patiala, SAS Nagar, Bathinda and Mansa, while the movement of officers between headquarters and field assignments adds another layer to the administrative restructuring.
For Punjab Police, the reshuffle comes with several key officers taking on new responsibilities simultaneously. With the new postings taking effect immediately, the concerned officers are expected to assume charge and begin their respective assignments as directed by the state government.
