Purushottam Chavan, the husband of IPS officer Rashmi Karandikar, is embroiled in a fresh fraud case involving alleged misappropriation of ₹7.42 crore from a Surat-based businessman and others. The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has obtained a production warrant for Chavan, who is already in judicial custody, and plans to formally arrest him on Wednesday in connection with the scam.

Allegations of Deception and Misused Influence
Chavan is accused of luring the complainant with false promises—including offering discounted government plots and assured contracts to supply T-shirts to the Maharashtra Police Academy—none of which materialized. Investigations reveal that a portion of the defrauded funds, over ₹2.5 crore, was allegedly transferred to his wife, IPS officer Rashmi Karandikar, who reportedly invested the amount in share trading.

IPS Officer Under Scrutiny
The EOW is examining Karandikar’s financial transactions and has sought clarification from the Maharashtra DGP’s office regarding whether she obtained mandatory permissions for such investments. Depending on the findings, disciplinary action against her may follow.

This case adds to Chavan’s legal troubles, as he was arrested last month in a separate ₹24.78 crore fraud case. Authorities are intensifying efforts to unravel the full extent of the alleged financial misconduct.
