In a recent bureaucratic reshuffle, senior IAS officer Riju Gogoi has been transferred and appointed as Secretary to the Home and Political Department in Assam. The official order was issued by the Assam government earlier this week, marking a strategic shift in the administrative leadership of one of the state’s most sensitive and high-profile departments.
A 2010-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Ms Gogoi has held several important roles within the state administration, including positions related to finance, infrastructure development, and district governance. Her new assignment places him at the helm of affairs related to internal security, law and order coordination, political administration, and inter-departmental strategy implementation.
The Home and Political Department in Assam plays a central role in managing critical issues such as border security, police administration, peace and coordination efforts, and policy oversight related to elections and governance. Ms. Gogoi’s prior field experience and reputation for efficient administrative handling are expected to support the government’s focus on responsive and transparent governance.
Her transfer is seen as part of the larger effort to optimize leadership within core departments. Further postings of senior officers are likely in the coming days as the state government undertakes restructuring to align officials with emerging priorities.
