Rajasthan Strengthens Its Public Service Commission with Appointments of a Policing Veteran, NEP Contributor, and Cancer Specialist
In a significant administrative development, the Rajasthan government has appointed three new members to the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), following the Governor’s approval. The new appointees are former senior IPS officer Hemant Priyadarshi, education policy expert Dr. Sushil Kumar Bissu, and noted oncologist Dr. Ashok Kumar Kalwar.
The orders, issued by the state administrative department, mark the second round of appointments to the RPSC under the present government. With these additions, 7 of the 10 sanctioned posts in the Commission are now filled, leaving three seats vacant.
Meet the Newly Appointed Members
Hemant Priyadarshi: Senior IPS Officer with a Distinguished Career
A 1992-batch IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Mr. Priyadarshi brings more than three decades of experience in policing and public service. Born on May 24, 1965, in Jharkhand, he holds an M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and has served in critical leadership positions at both state and central levels.
His previous roles include:
Inspector General and Additional Director General, BSF, New Delhi (2016–2023)
DIG and Joint Director, CBI, Bhopal and Mumbai (2008–2015)
Director and ADG, Rajasthan Police Academy
ADG, State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB)
ADG, ITBP and CRPF (on Central Deputation)
Director, State Forensic Science Laboratory, Jaipur
Most recently, he served as Director General at the Centre, capping a long and distinguished policing career. He is the second former IPS officer to be inducted into the RPSC under the current government, after former DGP U.R. Sahu, who was appointed as Chairman.
Dr. Sushil Kumar Bissu: Education Policy Expert and NEP Contributor
Dr. Bissu, an academic and former head of the All India Services Division, is widely recognized for his role in shaping India’s education policy. He contributed significantly to the drafting of the National Education Policy (NEP) and has been a key voice in policy forums and consultations on curriculum reform, institutional development, and governance in higher education.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Kalwar: Renowned Oncologist from Jodhpur
Dr. Kalwar, a prominent cancer specialist based in Jodhpur, adds a much-needed medical and public health dimension to the RPSC, an institution historically dominated by administrators and academics. His inclusion is seen as a deliberate step to broaden the Commission’s expertise and strengthen its multidisciplinary character.
Strengthening the RPSC’s Leadership Framework
With these appointments, the RPSC now has 7 active members, enhancing its capacity to discharge its wide-ranging responsibilities. The Commission is tasked with conducting state-level competitive examinations, as well as advising on recruitment, promotions, and disciplinary issues within the state civil services.
The move underscores the government’s intent to infuse the Commission with a balance of administrative experience, educational insight, and domain-specific expertise, ensuring a stronger foundation for shaping Rajasthan’s public workforce of the future.
