Samarth Verma Entrusted With New Role as Director in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Samarth Verma, a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Odisha cadre, as Director in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India.

According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Verma has been appointed under the Central Staffing Scheme for a tenure of five years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. To facilitate his transition, he has been instructed to be relieved of his current responsibilities with immediate effect, enabling him to take up his new assignment in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways is a key arm of the Government of India responsible for formulating policies and implementing programs to strengthen the country’s port-led development, maritime trade, and inland waterways under the vision of Sagarmala and other flagship initiatives. As Director, Verma will play a significant role in advancing the ministry’s efforts toward improving maritime infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and boosting India’s position as a global maritime hub.

With over a decade of administrative experience in the Odisha cadre, Verma’s induction into the Ministry is expected to add momentum to strategic initiatives in shipping, port modernization, and coastal economic development, aligning with the government’s broader agenda of infrastructure growth and trade facilitation.
