Sudhansh Pant Assigned Temporary Charge as Tribal Affairs Secretary During Ranjana Chopra’s Leave
In a recent administrative development, the Government of India has authorized a temporary change in leadership within the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The Competent Authority has approved the allocation of additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, to Mr Sudhansh Pant, a senior IAS officer of the 1991 Rajasthan cadre.
Mr Pant, who is currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, will oversee the functioning of the Tribal Affairs Ministry from December 6 to December 16, 2025. This interim arrangement has been made to ensure continuity in governance during the leave period of Ms. Ranjana Chopra, IAS (Odisha cadre, 1994), who holds the full-time position of Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Known for his extensive administrative experience, Sudhansh Pant has previously held several critical positions in both state and central governments. His temporary stewardship is expected to facilitate smooth coordination between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and other departments, particularly on ongoing welfare programmes, policy evaluations, and inter-ministerial initiatives aimed at improving socio-economic indicators among tribal communities.
The appointment underscores the government’s emphasis on continuity, efficiency, and uninterrupted administrative oversight, especially in ministries dealing with vulnerable and marginalized populations.
This interim charge will remain effective until Ms. Chopra resumes her duties on December 17, 2025.
