Social Justice Secretary to Temporarily Oversee Disability Empowerment Portfolio from January 12 to 20, 2026
The Central Government has formally approved the temporary assignment of additional charge of Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) to Shri Sudhansh Pant, IAS (Rajasthan cadre, 1991 batch).
Shri Pant, who is presently serving as the Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, will hold the Divyangjan portfolio from January 12, 2026 to January 20, 2026, during the official leave period of the regular incumbent, Ms. V. Vidyavathi, IAS (Karnataka cadre, 1991 batch).
Continuity of Leadership in Disability Affairs
The assignment ensures uninterrupted administrative leadership in the Ministry’s disability welfare and empowerment initiatives during Ms. Vidyavathi’s temporary absence. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is responsible for formulating and implementing national policies and programs related to accessibility, rehabilitation, education, skill development and social inclusion of persons with disabilities across India.
Experienced Administrator Entrusted with Additional Responsibility
With more than three decades of service in public administration, Shri Sudhansh Pant brings extensive governance and policy implementation experience to the Divyangjan department. His dual charge will strengthen inter-departmental coordination and ensure continued execution of flagship schemes and legislative commitments related to disability empowerment.
Temporary Assignment Under Central Staffing Norms
The additional charge has been approved by the competent authority in accordance with established central staffing procedures, and will automatically conclude upon the return of Ms. Vidyavathi after January 20, 2026.
