In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Telangana government has appointed IAS officer Sarfaraz Ahmad as Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL). Sarfaraz Ahmad Gets Additional Charge as HMRL MD
Sarfaraz Ahmad, a 2009-batch IAS officer currently serving as Metropolitan Commissioner of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), has been entrusted with the full additional charge of HMRL Managing Director. His appointment comes at a pivotal juncture as the state prepares for the next phase of metro expansion, making his leadership crucial to Hyderabad’s evolving urban transit landscape.
NVS Reddy Appointed Urban Transport Advisor
NVS Reddy, a retired officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) and widely regarded as the architect of the Hyderabad Metro, has been appointed Advisor on Urban Transport. Over two decades, Reddy played a transformative role in the planning, execution, and growth of the project, making his expertise central to Telangana’s future transport strategies.
The appointment orders were issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao (IAS, 1991 batch), alongside other key postings.
Other Major IAS Appointments
Shruti Ojha (IAS, 2013): Returned from study leave; appointed Director, Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens (WCD & SC), replacing Srijana G., who was holding additional charge.
Krishna Aditya S (IAS, 2014): Current Director of Intermediate Education; assigned additional charge as Secretary, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS), relieving K. Seetha Lakshmi (IAS, 2018).
Kota Sreevatsa (IAS, 2017): Appointed Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA (General), with additional charge as Secretary, HMDA, replacing R. Upender Reddy.
CM Reviews Plan for New Power Distribution Company
Meanwhile, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy chaired a crucial review meeting on the proposal to establish a third power distribution company in Telangana, supplementing the existing Southern (SPDCL) and Northern (NPDCL) Discoms.
Key Features of the Proposal:
New entity to manage agriculture, lift irrigation, rural drinking water, and urban drinking water supply within GHMC limits.
Cabinet approval required before implementation.

Finalization of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) allocations.
Division of staff and assets.
Settlement of pending dues.
Officials have been instructed to submit a comprehensive proposal for speedy execution of the new discom plan.
