Cabinet Committee Extends Temporary Upgradation of CBSE Chairperson Post to Additional Secretary Level Till March 2027

In a significant administrative decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of the temporary upgradation of the post of Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The position, which had earlier been elevated from the level of Joint Secretary to that of Additional Secretary, will continue in its upgraded status until 25 March 2027. The post is presently held by Shri Rahul Singh, IAS (Bihar Cadre, 1996 batch).

This extension ensures that the leadership of CBSE, India’s premier national school education board, continues to benefit from the enhanced administrative authority and stature associated with the rank of Additional Secretary.

The move reflects the government’s emphasis on strengthening institutional governance in the education sector, particularly in areas related to curriculum development, examination reforms, and policy implementation.
