In a major step toward strengthening accountability and transparency in development work, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered comprehensive on-site audits of key infrastructure projects across all 75 districts. Senior IAS officers have been designated as nodal officers for each district to carry out these inspections.
The assigned officers will conduct field-level reviews of two major infrastructure projects valued at over ₹50 crore in each district. They will also assess the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission, particularly the Har Ghar Nal Yojana, which aims to provide tap water to every rural household.
The inspection drive is scheduled for May 24 and 25, with officers required to submit detailed reports to Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh by May 26, according to an official directive issued by Amrita Soni, Chief Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary.
Key Areas of Inspection:
Physical verification of two infrastructure projects in each district, each valued at over ₹50 crore.
Review of implementation and effectiveness of the Jal Jeevan Mission, especially the Har Ghar Nal Yojana.
Inspection of Gau-Aashray Sthal (cattle shelters) as part of broader rural development and animal welfare initiatives.

Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh stressed that “real-time assessments are crucial for bridging the gap between policy planning and public benefit.” He warned that any irregularities or delays found during inspections would invite strict action, reinforcing the state’s zero-tolerance approach to administrative lapses.
Background:
The Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship joint initiative of the central and state governments, aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections in rural areas by 2024. Although the scheme has expanded rapidly, concerns over the quality of implementation and long-term sustainability persist in several regions.
By assigning senior IAS officers to conduct direct audits, the state government has sent a clear signal of its commitment to timely execution, quality assurance, and improved public service delivery.
