Annual report submitted to Governor highlights graft and abuse of authority with corruption and misuse of Office; Assembly tabling to determine future course
In a significant anti-corruption development, Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta Justice Sanjay Mishra has recommended disciplinary and legal action against four senior IAS officers, ten municipal and municipal council heads, and ninety-three other public servants for alleged corruption and misuse of official position.
On Tuesday evening, the Lokayukta formally submitted the Annual Report for 2024 to Governor Anandiben Patel, detailing the investigative findings against these officials. In accordance with the Lokayukta Act, the names of those indicted will remain confidential until the report is officially tabled in the State Assembly.
Complaints Addressed in 2024
The Lokayukta received a total of 2,131 complaints during the year.
Of these, 1,200 complaints were resolved at the preliminary stage.
931 cases proceeded to full investigation, several of which resulted in guilty findings.
In 115 cases, complainants were granted complete relief, with financial redress totaling nearly ₹3.72 crore.
Strengthening Transparency and Accountability
The Lokayukta, established under the Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act, 1975, functions as the state’s independent anti-corruption watchdog. Its mandate includes investigating allegations of graft, maladministration, and abuse of power by public officials.
For years, concerns have persisted that Lokayukta recommendations are not always acted upon with urgency, and reports often face delays in being presented before the Assembly. The latest recommendations—targeting over one hundred public servants, including senior IAS officers—represent a strong signal of the institution’s push for transparent and accountable governance.
Formal Submission of Report
Justice Sanjay Mishra was joined by Deputy Lokayuktas Dinesh Kumar Singh and Surendra Kumar Yadav, Lokayukta Secretary Dr. Reema Bansal, Chief Investigation Officer Tripurari Mishra, Joint Secretary Rajesh Kumar, and PRO Avneesh Sharma while submitting the report to Governor Anandiben Patel.
The Road Ahead
The spotlight now shifts to the Uttar Pradesh government and the speed with which it acts on these recommendations once the report is tabled in the Assembly. Swift disciplinary and legal proceedings against the indicted IAS officers and public servants will be critical in reinforcing the state’s stated commitment to clean governance, institutional accountability, and a corruption-free administration.
